Norfolk Southern will replace the Railroad Street railroad crossing in Palmyra later this month, PennDOT announced Friday, Oct. 7.

The Railroad Street crossing in Palmyra was the site of a fatal crash between a train and car in November 2021. The gates were said by authorities to be working at the time.

Railroad Street will be closed between Front and Willow streets from Monday, Oct. 24, to Friday, Oct. 28. During that time, a detour will be in place using Ridge Road (Route 4008), Grant Street (Route 4009), and Main Street (Route 422).

The detour route is noted in orange in the map below, which was shared by PennDOT.
