The Lebanon Valley Bicycle Coalition (LVBC) is set to host the International Ride of Silence on Wednesday, May 17, at 7 p.m., and is encouraging bicyclists of all ages and abilities to participate.
The Ride of Silence is an annual event observed globally on the same day and time. Participants will convene at the Cleona Borough Municipal Building parking lot, at 140 W. Walnut St., Cleona. The coalition advises attendees to arrive by 6:45 p.m. for assembly.
The route spans approximately 10 miles, starting at the borough building and proceeding west on Route 422 to the Palmyra Walmart before making a return trip. The pace will be kept slow to ensure the safety and comfort of all riders.
While participation in the event does not require LVBC membership, the coalition enforces a strict helmet policy. Additionally, high-visibility clothing and lights are strongly recommended. The ride will proceed regardless of weather conditions.
The International Ride of Silence holds a dual purpose. It serves as a poignant reminder of cyclists who have tragically lost their lives or been injured in collisions with motor vehicles. Furthermore, it emphasizes the legal right of bicyclists to share public roadways, underscoring the shared responsibility of motorists and bicyclists to abide by traffic laws and respect each other’s presence on the road.
The LVBC invites the Lebanon community to join this significant event in the spirit of remembrance and road safety awareness.
