Weavertown Fire Company is recognizing local donors whose support is vital to keep the volunteer company operating.
According to information provided to LebTown by Joe Bernardo, assistant secretary and firefighter at Weavertown, the volunteer fire company presented a plaque to Godshall’s Quality Meats for the company’s ongoing generosity and support.
Godshall’s and the fire company have a long history that dates back to the inception of Weavertown Fire Company in 1939, Bernardo said in a release. Back then, he explained, Godshall’s was called Weaver’s, and its owner John S. Weaver is credited with creating Weavertown Fire Company.
Recently, he said, Godshall’s presented Weavertown with a check for $10,000, which will help the company provide turnout gear (protective suits) for the volunteer firefighters. The company previously provided the company with garage space where they maintained a rescue engine before space was acquired at their current location.
Also, he said, Norfolk Southern Railway, which travels across the southern border of Weavertown’s response area, donated $13,600 toward the cost of additional sets of turnout gear.
The fire company also presented a plaque recognizing the support of R Field and Stream, which Bernardo said “has also been a pivotal community partner for the Weavertown Fire Company.” Besides making monetary donations, he said, R Field and Stream has “repeatedly purchased subs from our monthly sub sale” to support the purchase of new equipment, station maintenance, and the cost of training.
