Congressman Dan Meuser (R-9), state Sen. Chris Gebhard (R-48), and state Rep. John Schlegel (R-101) are partnering to host a tax seminar on Wednesday, March 27, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Lebanon Expo Center, 80 Rocherty Road, Lebanon.
Representatives from the Internal Revenue Service, the state, and nonprofit organizations will provide updates on changes in the tax code this year and answer questions about the Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTRR) and tax filing. Information will be available for general filers and small business owners.
“This year, more people than ever are eligible for Pennsylvania’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate program. The people who haven’t applied before and aren’t familiar with the process may have questions, so I am pleased we can offer an informative seminar for them,” Gebhard said in a press release.
The program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians who are at least 65 years old, are widows or widowers 50 years or older, or are at least 18 years old with disabilities. Applicants also must have an annual household income of less than $45,000 to qualify. Applications are due by June 30.
According to a press release from the hosting politicians, the maximum standard rebate has increased to $1,000 and the income cap has increased to $45,000 for both homeowners and renters. Only half of an applicant’s Social Security income is included in the calculations for eligibility and, starting this year, income caps are tied to the annual cost-of-living increases.
RSVP for the seminar by Friday, March 22, online or by calling 717-274-6735.
