WellSpan Health is replacing four existing generators with six new generators at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon.
It’s a project that has been in planning for over a year, and currently scheduled to be completed in June 2026.
WellSpan Health vice president of facility services Matt Beecy declined to share cost figures, but said that the project will improve the hospital’s ability to provide safe and reliable patient care by making its electrical infrastructure more reliable and more resilient.
“It’s part of our commitment to maintain and modernize infrastructure across our health system,” said Beecy.
In addition to the new generators, WellSpan is replacing older switchgear and distribution panels with new equipment. The project also includes a new substation on a former parking lot located on the northeast corner of South 3rd and Locust streets.
With the two new generators, WellSpan GSH will be able to sustain operations across the entire hospital even during the complete loss of utility power. Currently, the generators supply power only to emergency lines.
“In this new configuration WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital can operate as an independent island, with 100% electrical power, during a local power failure in Lebanon,” said Beecy.
