Lebanon mental health support organization Compeer is hosting a free, open-to-all Opioid Awareness Training at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17.

The hour-long training, held at the lower level of 625 S. 5th Ave., will provide opioid-related information to attendees.

Attendees will be taught how to recognize the signs of an overdose, as well as trained how to administer Narcan. They will be given a bottle of the opioid overdose-reversing nasal spray to take with them in the event they witness an overdose.

“We’re in an opioid epidemic here — it’s about saving someone’s life,” said program manager Shannon McMinn.

Compeer holds regular trainings for its program participants and the community supports they are paired with. Many of these trainings, McMinn said, are open to the public.

For more information or to register for the training, call the Compeer office at (717) 272-8317 or email operations@compeer-lebanon.org.
