The Hershey Story Museum has announced that online submissions for the 25th annual History Contest for Young Writers are now being accepted.

The contest is open to students in grades 5 through 8 who are enrolled in a public, private or home school in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry or York counties. Eligible students may submit an entry in one of four categories: nonfiction, fiction, poetry, or the history of science/health.

Entry forms, contest guidelines and submission instructions can be found at HersheyStory.org under the Students and Teachers tab. Last year’s winning entries are also available on the website.

First-place winners will receive $100, a family membership to The Hershey Story, tickets to Hersheypark, and a Hershey’s Chocolate gift basket. Students who receive second place and honorable mention will also be recognized. Winning entrants will be notified next spring.

Entries will be accepted through Saturday, Feb. 15.

The Hershey Museum (now known as The Hershey Story Museum) introduced the contest in 2000 to encourage students to communicate their interest in and knowledge of history in a creative and coherent manner, according to a press release.

The M.S. Hershey Foundation exists to preserve and enhance Milton Hershey’s legacy and community vision and to provide educational and cultural enrichment to residents of Hershey. Hershey Community Archives, Hershey Gardens, Hershey Theatre, and The Hershey Story are operating divisions of the foundation.
