Myerstown Community Library is among public libraries across the country that have been supplied with books and DVDs from the Stuttering Foundation.
The books, funded through donations to the foundation, are directed to parents of children who stutter, adults who stutter, speech pathologists, pediatricians, family physicians, nurses, health-care professionals, hospitals, schools, clinics, day-care centers, and others who are concerned with a stuttering problem.
“More than three million Americans stutter, yet stuttering remains misunderstood by most people,” Jane Fraser, president of the Stuttering Foundation, said in a release. “Myths such as believing people who stutter are less intelligent or suffer from psychological problems still persist despite research refuting these erroneous beliefs.”
The DVDs in the collection feature leading therapists with children who stutter. Foundation materials have reached millions of individuals worldwide, according to the release.
Since 1947, the nonprofit Stuttering Foundation has provided free materials to public libraries nationwide. Libraries interested in stocking their materials can email for information at info@stutteringhelp.org or download a request form online.
