Lebanon Valley College has announced a new bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education.

The college will begin enrolling students in the new major starting next fall, Dr. Susan Tammaro, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, announced in a press release. The program adds to LVC’s existing programs in the education fields.

The new major is a collaboration between the Education and Exercise Science departments. According to Tammaro, it will enable graduates to pursue careers in secondary education, fitness, health and wellness, and leadership, and it will lead to opportunities to become a head athletic coach, fitness instructor, health teacher, physical education teacher, or athletic director.

Students in the major will be placed in the classroom during their first year and will gain over 200 hours of field experience before their student teaching semester, the release said.

In addition to their teacher certification, though not required, students can pursue certification in several areas, including personal training, group fitness, and strength and conditioning.
