Myerstown Borough Council unanimously approved an agreement with the Redevelopment Authority of the County of Lebanon to undergo a project improving South Railroad Street with up to $180,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding at its meeting Tuesday.
The project will include reconstruction and resurfacing from Center Avenue to Richland Avenue, with any leftover cost to be paid by the borough.
While Myerstown is entitled to annual CDBG funding, it must be used within CDBG guidelines and benefit low- and moderate-income residents.
The process for confirming the income level of affected residents, borough manager Michael McKenna said at a previous meeting, has made it difficult to find eligible projects.
Council also discussed several event requests.
They unanimously approved the Isaac Meier Homestead’s list of events. They also granted blanket approval for the homestead to host educational classes with 25 or fewer attendees, so long as 14 days notice of each event is given to the borough.

Council members also unanimously approved Daniel Ebling’s request for a Summery Concert Series event Sept. 18 and 19, and approved a Recreation Board proposal for 2025 events and activities, including the possibility of pop-up events.
Council also let a resident know that the 11 N. College St. short-term rental will be up for renewed registration in February. They will discuss the matter in February’s work session, which is held the fourth Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
The property has come under fire from neighbors, who allege excessive sound from renters and insufficient communication from the designated contact person.

- Unanimously approved the 2025-26 road salt contract for 250 tons of salt.
- Unanimously agreed to exempt the Myerstown Water Authority from street excavation permit fees and application, subject to letting the office know what work they will be doing.
- Unanimously approved a request from Mission Church to remove some ’70s-era cabinets from Room 41 of the community center.
- Unanimously approved an addendum to the Modern Gent Hat Co. lease to include Room 244.
- Directed McKenna to contact the property owners of 3, 5, 7, and 9 W. Richland Ave. regarding a potential shared access agreement.
- Unanimously agreed to approve minutes and reports.
