The Lebanon County branch of the NAACP has announced several local events for Black History Month.
They include:
Saturday, Feb. 1: Film screening of “History of the Underground Railroad in South Central Pennsylvania” at Allen Theater, 35 E. Main St., Annville, 2:30-5 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 7: Art Show featuring artwork by area high school students on First Friday at the Lebanon Valley Council on the Arts, 5-8 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 8: African Drumming Workshop, featuring Studio Solomon, at On Stage Theater, 515 Cumberland St., Lebanon, 2-3 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 15: St. John A.M.E Church tour and celebration at 1244 Walnut St., Lebanon, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 22: 3rd annual Black History Month Freedom Fund Gala at WEPA Empowerment Center, 9 S. 9th St., Lebanon, 6-9 p.m. Tickets are available online.
According to a release, the evening will spotlight Black-owned businesses and feature music, dancing, and a soul food dinner from Aunt Hocker’s Fish Fry. Keynote speaker this year is Chad Dion Lassiter, executive director of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the state agency tasked with enforcing Pennsylvania’s civil rights laws to protect people from unlawful discrimination.
The theme this year honors the Harlem Renaissance, and period attire is encouraged.
