More than three dozen Lebanon County fire and EMS services will split more than $550,000 received through the 2024-25 Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program.

The largest local recipients this year are Northern Lebanon Fire and Emergency Services Inc. of Jonestown, which will receive $52,322, and South Lebanon Fire Company No. 1 of Lebanon and Union Hose Fire Company of Annville, each of which is getting $28,322.

The Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program is administered by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner and is available annually for volunteer and career fire companies, emergency medical services, and volunteer rescue squads. Program funding is generated through slot machine gaming proceeds.

This round of grants was announced Feb. 12.

“These grants will strengthen our local fire companies and emergency medical services providers, enabling them to continue their excellent work to protect our communities and residents in our times of emergency,” state Rep. John Schlegel (R-101) said in a release.

“Our firefighters and EMS personnel work very hard and make daily sacrifices to serve and protect our municipalities,” state Rep. Russ Diamond (R-102) added in a separate release. “Most of these companies are run exclusively by volunteers, who need to make equipment and safety upgrades to continue doing their jobs effectively. These grant awards are just one way we show our support for all they do.”

According to the State Fire Commissioner’s website, eligible organizations can apply for grant funding for a combination of up to two projects in areas such as facility construction or renovations, purchase of equipment and fuel, debt reduction, training, overtime, recruitment, and retention.
