It took a while, but we are finally rid of the sickness in the critic household. It was nasty and long lasting.

We had been itching to get out for a hearty meal that wasn’t chicken noodle soup. During one of my weekly trips to the Lebanon Farmers Market, I noticed an eatery offering fried fish.

One of our favorite comfort meals is fried fish. So, I needed to give this a try. I pulled up a stool at the counter and had lunch at Aunt Hocker’s Fish Fry.

This stand offers fried fish and shrimp dinners, fish sandwiches (choice of five different fishes), and tacos, as well as several sides and soups. They have counter seating and offer takeout meals, too.

For our lunch today we chose the fried haddock dinner with pasta salad, mac & cheese, and potato salad. I saw on their Facebook page the mac & cheese was selected as “Most Like Mom’s” at the Mac and Cheese Fest at the Lebanon Valley Mall.

The fish is breaded and freshly fried in front of you. The pieces are fried to a golden crisp and plenty moist. The homemade tartar sauce that goes with your meal is quite delicious with a little kick.

As for the sides, the mac & cheese, with a little salt and pepper, tasted just like my childhood serving, including the crispy top layer. The creamy potato salad comes with a hefty portion and a delicious blend of its ingredients.

Our take: One thing that stands out is the homemade offerings. From the freshly done fried fish to the homemade sides and soups, you can’t go wrong with a meal here. The tartar sauce takes the fresh fish to another level. If you get a choice for a side, make sure one is the mac & cheese.

We give this place 🥓🥓🥓🥓🥓.
